TIPS & TRICKS
Shorten boot time
and preserve memory resources: You may disable the loading of network drivers
and the wallpaper by pressing your keyboard's
Scroll Lock key during the boot process between the time when
the mouse pointer first appears and before the appearing of the
GO button. If you want to prevent loading of network drivers and
wallpaper on a permanent basis, then create a
AUBCD1.CMD
file on your C: drive by clicking
GO >
System >
Custom Boot >
Create aubcd1.cmd on C:\ and add the following line to the file:
@echo off >x:\temp\nonet.tok
Also, you may save memory resources by ending unnecessary processes in the Task
Manager (GO >
System >
Task Manager). Click on
winvnc.exe and
r_server.exe then click the
End Process button if remote access is unnecessary.
To edit the registry residing on the local computer's hard drive, simply load SpyBot Search & Destroy but don't scan for spyware. While it is loaded run regedit and you will notice the remote computer's hives will appear under HKLM\PE_C_... When you are finished editing or viewing, simply close SpyBot and the hives will unload.
