Write-through cache
The write-through cache allows Alan's Boot CD to act as a hard drive. Add, delete, and edit files directly on the CD. Add programs such as Adobe Reader, anti-spyware, utilities, etc. Of course when you reboot your computer, everything is lost since what appeared to be written to the CD was actually written to cache memory, but that is the beauty of it. Unlike an actual hard drive, nothing will ever contaminate the CD. Experiment with installing any program you want without fear of permanent damage. The cache size will automatically adjust itself depending upon the amount of total system memory:
|
Total System Memory |
Write-through cache size |
|
< 96 MB |
4MB |
|
96-196 MB |
25% of total system memory |
|
> 196 MB |
128MB |
What is unique about Alan's Ultimate Boot CD is
the ability to run on systems with only 64MB of total memory, maintain a 4MB
cache, run the Opera web browser, and allow remote access all
simultaneously! If the cache fills up with unwanted files, you can always delete
them with a single click.
